"Community Cares"
Serving Our Seniors!

During the Christmas season, our youth support seniors by helping with yard work and putting up holiday lights. One elderly woman, whose husband had passed away just months earlier, was especially touched by their kindness.

The Sia Yorker Brain Awareness Foundation honored Mr. Eric Costello with the Community Cares Youth Volunteer of the Year Award, joined by his parents and older brother. A Pine Ridge High School AVID student, Eric has been a dedicated volunteer since the program’s launch in 2022 and remains a loyal, respected member of the foundation today.

Our Mission
To offer intergenerational volunteer programs that connect children and older adults, fostering meaningful relationships that enrich both groups and strengthen the community.
By volunteering with seniors—such as delivering meals or helping at community dining sites—children stay active, build social skills, and learn the value of kindness and supporting those in need.
What We Believe
We recognize the lasting impact volunteering has on young people. This program not only teaches youth the value of community service but also creates opportunities for them to assist seniors with tasks they can no longer easily manage—like mowing the lawn, watering plants, setting up a Christmas tree, or reading the newspaper—building connections across generations.

We believe intergenerational programs connect children and older adults, fostering meaningful relationships that strengthen individuals and the wider community.
By serving as their hands, feet, eyes, and ears, we show our seniors that “Community Cares.”
Become a Volunteer

Getting involved in volunteer and civic activities early builds empathy, citizenship, and pathways to meaningful education and careers. Young volunteers make a difference today while shaping stronger, healthier communities for the future.
Through “Community Cares” Youth Volunteer projects, you can brighten lives—help a neighbor by raking, mowing, weeding, planting, or using your unique skills to assist someone in need.
Our Youth Awareness and Education programs welcome students in grades 1–12, as well as adult volunteers, organizations, and businesses. Sign up using the volunteer form below to join us in making an impact.

The Power of Intergenerational Bonds
When young people spend time with older generations, they gain valuable skills like communication, empathy, respect, and patience. At the same time, older adults benefit from mental stimulation and a meaningful connection to the energy, ideas, and evolving trends of younger generations. Together, these interactions bridge generations, strengthen communities, and enrich lives for all.
Six reasons why your child should volunteer

1. Connect with People
Volunteering gives teens and kids a chance to meet with people from all sorts of backgrounds who are united through a common cause.

2. Be Appreciated
Volunteering with an open heart builds your child’s confidence and earns well-deserved recognition.

3. Become Aware of what Life is like for the Less
Privileged
Volunteering helps children from privileged backgrounds understand the challenges faced by the less fortunate.

4. Learn New Skills
Volunteers build leadership, communication, and organizational skills while learning from everyone around them.

5. Explore Job and Career Possibilities
Volunteering in an organization which is related to their interest allows your child to explore how they feel about working within that environment.

6. Fulfill your required high school community service before graduation.
Volunteering early helps your child earn community service hours while focusing on exams and college applications.
